Absent: Phil Zeccarrdi, Patricia Stolee, Sandy Shea, Bonnie Ratajek, Tracy Larsen, Kim Burke, Terri McGillvrey

Review of meeting minutes from January 2008:

  • There was a note under Marketing/Membership that the newsletter would be sent out electronically. The January newsletter wasn't sent out electronically. This will be discussed at the March meeting to decide if the newsletter should be sent electronically or paper copy.
  • HRCI-Study materials for the GPHR are different from the other certification study materials. There was a discussion to make a note to revise the previous minutes and to approve.

New Business:

HR Games:
Jennifer Mencl discussed that everything is ready for the HR Games on Saturday, March 1st. There will be 6 teams competing from 3 schools.

CAP Report:
Chapter Achievement Plan was submitted.

Financial Report: (Laurie Pinther):

  • Monthly expenses are constant. It was discussed that there are some outstanding invoices (approximately $3700 was due). A motion was made by Laurie to create a write-off account for this expense. Motion was seconded and approved.
  • A check is expected from the state conference.
  • Payments are about half received and processed for membership. A second invoice will be sent to those with outstanding payments the first week in March.
  • A copy of the budget was distributed.
  • Profit and Loss Statement-The recording of additional future expenses that are known was discussed (for example, new certification plaques, letters to be printed, fundraising, etc.). A motion was made and approved to adjust these items as additional expenses are known

Professional Development Report (Roxanne Adamczak):
Certification credits needed for a previous meeting. Roxanne will fill out the information for the May meeting, which is on diversity. Roxanne will see into credits for the February meeting as well.

College Relations (Jennifer Mencl):
The email to request scholarship applicants was sent and responses are due by the first or second week in March. To qualify for the scholarship, students must be in an undergrad program and be a SHRM member. Students are required to submit a resume and write a 500 word essay. The essay should state the occupation the student intends to pursue and future career plans. The essay will be reviewed based on human resources involvement and career intentions, as well as academic excellence. Students are not limited to only receiving the scholarship once. Jen will revise the application. The scholarship is typically given in April.

Legislative Affairs (Wayne Lindberg):
Wayne participated in a conference call with government affairs. There's a push on weapons in the workplace. There's a legislative report on the new SHRM website. There's discussion on FMLA expansion regarding military leave in which there's a 128-page piece discussing these expansions.

Other Business:

  • It was suggested that the NHRA host a day long workshop with keynote speakers as a fall conference. A suggestion was made to utilize the Holiday Inn for services and space. The NHRA could keep the cost the same as previous, make it an all day conference, and get sponsors through possibly targeting smaller businesses. It was suggested that there be break-out sessions with different tracks. The state SHRM is putting together a list of speakers. Wayne will send out an email looking for members of a break-out committee to organize this conference as well as for ideas.
  • An email was received regarding an International Benefits Specialist position. Any referrals like this could be posted on the website.
  • The federal prison camp is holding a job fair on March 27 and they're looking for volunteers. Contact Jennifer Mencl or the prison camp directly for more information.

Adjourn at 1:00 p.m.

Recorded by Wendy Sersha
