NEW BUSINESS:
MN SHRM Conference:
Tickets/Basket:
Kim Burke reported that she received 50 raffle tickets to sell ahead of time for the Chapter Baskets that
will be raffled at the State SHRM Conference. They are $5.00 a piece. It was decided that she should
bring them to the October Chapter meeting to possibly sell to the membership. It was also suggested to
mention it on the reminder that is sent out regarding the October Chapter Meeting.
Molly Haugen agreed to put together our Chapter basket and was requesting a budget of $200 and asking if
there was a particular theme or any ideas of what we want for the basket. A motion was made by Roxanne
Adamczak to provide Molly with a budget of $200; seconded by Steve Korby. Board approved; motion
carried. It was agreed that any theme will work or what she did last year was fine.
Registration Desk:
We will be splitting working the registration desk at the conference with TCHRA. The schedule was
discussed and confirmed that all time slots are covered.
Board Elections:
November Board elections are coming up. Kim Burke passed out the succession plan. There are still
positions to be filled. Kathryn Koch will not be able to fill the VP of Finance. Recruiting for Board
Member positions will be done at the October Chapter Membership Meeting.
Prison Camp Mock Interviews:
Kim talked about the prison camp mock interviews. She mentioned that Jennifer Mencl will be
participating. She was looking for any other volunteers. Kim had a couple of people from Minnesota
Power that she knew were interested in assisting.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Financial Report (Bonnie Ratajek):
Bonnie passed around the financial report as of August 31, 2007. Discussion took place. Roxanne
Adamczak moved to approved and was seconded by Tracy Larsen; board approved, motion carried.
Diversity Report (Sandy Shea):
Kim Burke provided the diversity report as Sandy Shea was not present. She is working towards a
diversity luncheon speaker. Kathy Chalupsky mentioned that we have things lined up for October and
November. It could possibly work for December or possibly January. We will keep this in mind as we
getting closer to those months.
Professional Development (Kathy Chalupsky):
Kathy Chalupsky reported the topic for October is Recent Trends in Compensation Analysis presented by
Karen Andresen, Kristin Eberth, and Courtney Helmstetter. She has already secured continuing education
credits through SHRM for this event. November is tentatively scheduled with Jim Skoog, regarding the
Pandemic Flu.
College Relations (Jennifer Mencl):
Jennifer received a request for proposal for the HR Games. She will fill out and e-mail the form prior
to the next board meeting so that we can review prior to the meeting and discuss at the next meeting. It
is due that last Friday in October. Discussion took place as to where the games could be held; on the
UMD campus or at a hotel. Her preference would be at a hotel.
The second testing window for certification for PHR and SPHR this year is December 1 . January 31st. The
application deadline is October 12th but late registrations will be accepted thorough November 16 (a $50
late fee applies). There will also be a testing window next May/June. We will have a formal study group
during March and April. She reminded us that there is a strategic requirement for SPHR in which you can
write a paper.
Student SHRM Chapter Update (Stacy Jorgenson):
Stacy is the President of the UMD student chapter and reported that they had their first meeting with
approximately 20+ students attending. They are promoting guest speakers at their meetings, social
events, networking opportunities; resume workshops, internships, preparing for the HR games etc. for the
upcoming year. They will be attending the State SHRM conference. It sounds like they have a very active
year planned.

No report.
Membership Report (Roxanne Adamczak):
We received two new members in the last couple of months. She has sent out new member welcome packets to
those individuals.
