Absent: Tracy Larsen, Bonnie Ratajek, Heather Turcotte

Review and Approval of August 2008 NHRA Retreat at Grandma's Restaurant) Meeting Minutes:

A correction on the second page: Kim Burke will get speakers for November and December meetings. The October meeting hasn't been submitted for credits yet. Kim will check on this. With the above mentioned change, the August retreat meeting minutes were approved.

Approval of August Financials:

Finished the golf event and got a check from the workshop. Profit was up. Financials for August were approved.

Follow-Up Items:

  • HR Column - Patricia brought a form to be filled out to request an article from SHRM. Jennifer Mencl volunteered to request articles from SHRM and submit articles to the paper.
  • Membership Follow-up - It was approved, starting in January 2009, that non-members of NHRA will start paying a $20 fee to attend the monthly educational meetings. This is to offer an incentive for people to become members of the organization. This information will be listed in promotional items.
  • Board Positions - Kathy has made contact with some individuals in regard to open board positions. There are no definite new board members yet. Kathy tabled this topic to be discussed next month.
  • Fall to Spring Conference schedule - Wendy and Laurie will contact the ASTD President regarding ASTD's interest in partnering up to put on a conference possibly in June.
  • 20th Anniversary Event - Kim Burke volunteered to organize a luncheon (with help from Wendy Sersha) in recognition of NHRA past presidents in celebration of the organization's 20th Anniversary to be held during the
  • December meeting - Patricia will look into possible door prizes (t-shirts, mugs, grocery bags?). It was thought that these items could also be used as give-aways for drawings throughout the year.
  • Handling the Savings Account - The organization has money in the savings account. It was discussed what should be done with this money. Some of this money will be used to send the president and president-elect to the SHRM national conference. Other ideas included increasing scholarships, bringing in a national speaker (for December?), covering additional costs from the fall conference, etc. This will be discussed more during budget talks at the beginning of the year.
  • Job Descriptions - Jenifer Mencl sent out a job analysis questionnaire for board members to complete before the next meeting. The thought is to get a feel for what members are doing in their current position and make changes from there.

New Business:

  • SHRM Leadership Conference Basket - $190 in the budget for a State Conference basket. Laurie volunteered to coordinate putting the basket together and Kathy will bring it to the conference.
  • SHRM Leadership Conference Volunteering - In the past, volunteering at the conference resulted in a $1500 income. Kathy will talk to the coordinators to see if help is still needed.
  • Prison Mock Interviews - Interviews are being held on 10/3. Terri will find out if volunteers are still needed and send an email to NHRA members.
  • ASTD Event - ASTD is holding an event on September 24th discussing "Personal Foundations of Leadership", from 8:00 am - 10:00 am at the Harbour City International School. Attendees can register on the ASTD website. Kim will send an email to NHRA members announcing this event.
  • Food Bank Drive - NHRA will match the $164 raised for the food bank. Jennifer Mencl will make the delivery.
  • Fall Conference (Laurie and Wayne) - Although costs for the fall conference were more than anticipated, all agreed that the conference itself was a success. A discussion will be had regarding opportunities for improvement, including cutting back on some of the food items, etc.
  • Student Member Consortium (Jennifer Mencl) - Tabled until next months meeting.
  • Informational Session (Jennifer Mencl) - An idea to have an informational session for members in October, November, or December regarding the PHR/SPHR exams, the process of maintaining certification, and other relevant information. Jennifer Mencl will check into a speaker to give the session.
  • DVD (Patricia) - NHRA will purchase the DVD of media coverage from the conference.
Other Business:
  • It was suggested that NHRA members be updated on a more regular basis as to board member meetings. This will be discussed at the next meeting as to the best way to do that.

Meeting adjourned.
